NBA Rumors: Philadelphia 76ers Could Land Kyle Lowry Via Sign-And-Trade This Summer

Fadeaway World

Kyle Lowry is currently playing his last games with the Toronto Raptors after he wasn’t traded at the 2021 trade deadline. The veteran point guard has spent the last nine years of his career in Canada and it’s to face a new challenge for him after winning one championship with the Raptors.

He was linked to a series of teams during those days and now that the deadline is part of the past, it will be interesting to see what other squads will be trying to get Lowry in the offseason, where he becomes a free agent.

According to Sam Amick of The Athletic, the Philadelphia 76ers are still interested in the player’s services and although only the Miami Heat can afford to land Lowry this offseason, Daryl Morey could try to make some magic to land the 35-year-old.

Lowry not getting traded at the March 25 deadline was quite a surprise, but it wasn’t for lack of trying on the part of the Toronto front office. But as team president Masai Ujiri made clear back then, the Raptors still have an incredibly high opinion of Lowry and his game that — as they saw it — wasn’t properly reflected in the offers that came their way. Yet among the three teams known to be in hot pursuit of Lowry back then — the Lakers, Miami and Philadelphia — only the Heat are in a financial position to possibly sign Lowry outright this summer. Sources say the Sixers still plan on pursuing him by way of a possible sign-and-trade. While they added George Hill at the deadline in lieu of Lowry, only $1.2 million of his $10 million salary for next season is guaranteed, and the deal expires at that point. The Lowry interest remains very strong there.

This player will have several suitors this summer but not everybody will actually get his attention. Something that the Sixers have in their favor is that Lowry is a Philly native and a return home can be a big factor in his free agency decision.

We’re a couple of months away from free agency and Lowry is one of the players that will try to find a new home in the league. The Sixers, the Heat, and more teams will keep tabs on him to try to make a move for the 2019 NBA champion.
