Draymond Green has gained immense notoriety this season for a reason other than his play. Green was very impactful for the Golden State Warriors and won his 4th ring in the process, but the biggest headlines have been made for other reasons. Draymond started his podcast, the Draymond Green Show, and he has been leading a crusade against the ‘old media’ all season, providing analysis and insight.
This has led to quite a bit of backlash from certain media members that have been around for a while. No one likes being challenged, and Green has been questioning the way things are both loudly and effectively. However, there are elements of basketball discourse where the issues can simply be with the questions, and the people praying for Dray to slip up have recently found something to latch onto.
Green recently answered a question which was a comparison between Kevin Durant and Carmelo Anthony. Both were elite scorers in their prime, KD still is, but Draymond seemed to think Melo was better. And now NBA analyst Nick Wright has called him out for that take, suggesting that it shows Green is no better than the people he claims to dislike.
"Carmelo Anthony won the only National Championship in the history of my alma mater. Melo's one of my favorite players of all time. He's not a better scorer than Kevin Durant. Draymond's become what he most despises. It's a bad take that he doesn't even believe." — @getnickwright pic.twitter.com/AATOkK4seU

“To be fair to Draymond, maybe Melo in his 16 minutes of game for the Lakers changed his opinion of him,” Wright said. “Or maybe new media is falling into so many of the pitfalls old media deals with. I’m not here to say Draymond Green (the face of new media) can’t keep his takes together, because he doesn’t necessarily believe what he’s saying.
“He’s just trying to create content. What I’m saying is – actually, that’s exactly what I’m saying. What I’m saying is, Draymond has become what he most despises. The inauthentic, inconsistent taker, just giving takes for the sake of takes. I’ve heard him call Kevin Durant the greatest scorer ever, and now he says he’s not as good as Carmelo.
“It’s just a bad take that Draymond doesn’t even believe in.”
This is a huge shot at Draymond, and it remains to be seen if he’ll react or not. There is certainly not much wrong with having the opinion that Melo is a better scorer than anybody, he is one of the best of all time. However, there is some truth to the fact that these topics become unavoidable after a point, new media or old media.
