Damian Lillard is one of the most talented players in the modern-day NBA in his position. Since entering the NBA, Lillard has only gotten better with each passing season and has reached superstar status for many. On top of that, he is a loyal player and is still with the Portland Trail Blazers, the team that drafted him in the 2012 NBA Draft.

In December 2022, Lillard officially became the all-time leading scorer of the organization as well. Despite all his achievements with the team, there is no doubt that the rest of the team is not on the same level as the 32-year-old.

Many have urged Damian Lillard to leave the organization and join a contender, but Dame has made it clear that he doesn’t want to leave the team.

Paul Pierce Compares Damian Lillard’s Current Situation To Kevin Garnett’s Situation With The Timberwolves

Kevin Garnett is undoubtedly one of the greatest players to don the jersey of the Minnesota Timberwolves. But similar to what Lillard is going through right now, Garnett went through the same before he ultimately joined the Boston Celtics. The decision helped Garnett in winning the only NBA Championship of his career.

KG’s then-teammate and now co-host of the ‘KG Certified’ podcast, Paul Pierce, recently shared his thoughts on what Lillard should do.

(Starts at 1:24)

“I’ll tell you this Tic, he is one of the greatest players to ever play and he has given everything he can to a franchise that can’t build a championship contender around him. I know more than anyone you feel this situation. As loyal as he’s been and similar to your situation. As prideful as he has been, it gets to a breaking point and I’m sure this is something that you can talk about because I know you probably never wanted to leave Minnesota. You left your heart, your blood, sweat, and tears, you gave that city everything and you wanted more than anything to win out there.”

He added, “You just looked exhausted night in and night out. I ain’t taking this nowhere and I see the same thing in Lillard finally. … It’s time for him to move on from Portland.”

Pierce meant no harm to Lillard’s stance about not wanting to join another superstar and form a super team. But at the end of the day, winning an NBA Championship is the ultimate goal for every player, and it must be the same with Lillard.
