The Los Angeles Lakers snapped their losing streak after winning against the Houston Rockets. They have now improved their record to 20-24 after the win and will hope to continue winning games.

The credit for the win against the Rockets goes to none other than LeBron James. James had a sensational 48-point performance, including a red-hot shooting night. Apart from that, Russell Westbrook continued his great performance while coming off the bench.

Although Westbrook recorded 24 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists, he made headlines for his alleged spat with Phil Handy and the Lakers’ coaching staff.

“There was an interesting scene as the Lakers headed to the locker room at the end of the first half with the lead. Everybody pretty optimistic, happy with things, and then it was Russell Westbrook telling his coaches that they have to be better, repeatedly. Directing towards the Lakers coaching staff, ‘Ya’ll gotta be better than that.’ Phil Handy and LeBron calming Russ down saying, ‘We all have to be better, Russ.’ That was Phil Handy’s words to Russ.”

Russell Westbrook was previously criticized for his infamous ‘have fun’ comments about the Lakers. So it is certainly good to see Westbrook taking charge.

Russell Westbrook Clarified His Comments

There are times when players and coaches get into it during the heat of the game. But it’s always important to clarify the situation as soon as possible. Otherwise, it could have a negative impact on the morale of the team.

Westbrook did so during the postgame conference, where he cleared things up and made it clear that there is nothing to worry about for the fans.

“Honestly, just a conversation. I didn’t get into it with anybody. Obviously, people are going to perceive how they want to, but just voicing my opinion and that was it.”

As Westbrook mentioned, people are indeed going to perceive this animated discussion according to how they see fit. At the end of the day, Russ was voicing his opinion, and it certainly helped the Lakers in winning their 20th game of the 2022-23 NBA season.
