There might be history made at the Alamodome when the San Antonio Spurs host the Golden State Warriors on Friday.

The Spurs announced that they were just 5,000 tickets shy of breaking the all-time NBA game attendance record and 8,000 way from reaching the maximum capacity at the Alamodome.

The arena has room to seat 65,000 people and will serve as the venue for the Spurs’ mega 50th-anniversary celebration. A slew of events, including pre and post-game parties, are set to take place along with a halftime performance by the ‘90s rap duo “Tag Team.”

San Antonio showed up.

The Spurs will break the NBA’s all-time attendance record (previously 62,046) on Friday at the Alamodome.

The official site also added that there would be limited edition merchandise on sale and even some fireworks display in the offing.

At the time of writing, NBA correspondent Marc Stein reported that 63,592 tickets were sold. The Georgia Dome clash in 1998 between the Chicago Bulls and the Atlanta Hawks held the record with 62,046 people thronging to watch Michael Jordan.

Will The Golden State Warriors Spoil The Spurs’ Party On Friday?

It hasn’t been a great run for either of the teams over the last few games. The Warriors have lost three in a row, while the Spurs have won just one of their last five games, with the latest loss coming against the Memphis Grizzlies.

The Spurs are placed 14th in the West with a 13-29 record, and while they are on a potential rebuild, they still have impressive players in Keldon Johnson and Devin Vassell, who have shown grit and skill to lead their side to wins this season.

That said, they will be up against the defending champions, who have been struggling themselves. But the trio of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green pose a stern test to the Spurs and are favorites to clinch the contest and get their wobbly campaign back on track.

Can the Spurs give their fans something to cheer about by pulling off an upset win against the Warriors? Only time will tell.
