The Golden State Warriors may not be having a great 2022-23 NBA season, but a couple of years later, they were the team to beat in the Western Conference. After already winning an NBA Championship in 2015 and creating the record for the best regular season record in the history of the NBA in 2016, many wondered what was next for the organization.

Well, it turned out to be Stephen Curry, Klay Thomspon, and Draymond Green welcoming Kevin Durant to the team. Durant joining the Warriors essentially destroyed all balance in the league, and he became a villain for the rest of the league.

But even after joining the Golden State Warriors, many doubted how Durant and Curry would share the court. The obvious doubt was whether the two players will let their egos clash.

Stephen Curry’s Key Text Message Helped Kevin Durant Settle Right Away With The Warriors

Being a leader of the team doesn’t mean only putting up monster numbers on the court, and over the course of his career, Curry has proved that countless times. In a recent video, Curry explained how his key text message to Kevin Durant helped them in sharing the limelight.

I can exist in a situation where I know when to get out of the way. I know when to lead. I know when to speak. I know how to find value in myself every single day and nobody was really gonna threaten that part. It was just like is this gonna help us win? And am I going to enjoy playing basketball with him? Hell yeah.”

Bob Myers added, “The line I remember was, ‘Whether you’re MVP or I’m MVP. If it’s yours I’ll be sitting there in the front row for congratulating you.’ I had this moment like wow that could actually happen. Kevin could have been MVP.”

Curry’s unselfishness is one of his biggest qualities, and that’s what makes him a great leader. Thanks to that, the Warriors won two NBA Championships in three NBA Finals appearances during Kevin Durant’s time with the organization.

As for their stats, Curry averaged 26.3 PPG, 4.9 RPG, and 6.0 APG. On the other hand, Durant averaged 25.8 PPG, 7.1 RPG, and 5.4 APG during the same time interval.

And even though the two superstars are back to being rivals, they are still on good terms. Hopefully, fans will be able to see them play against each other in the NBA Finals in the near future, as it will be a great matchup.
