If you know Steve Kerr, you know he’s always been fond of Kevin Durant’s talents. He has the opportunity to coach the player on the Golden State Warriors, watching firsthand what he can do on the court.
Kerr’s excitement about KD hasn’t changed now that he’s out of the Dubs. The 2x NBA champion delivered impressive performances during the 2021 playoffs, torching the Boston Celtics and Milwaukee Bucks in the first two rounds.
Although he couldn’t get past Giannis Antetokounmpo and co., Durant once again demonstrated he’s one of the best players in the world. Kerr had nothing but good words to say about Durantula’s performances this postseason.
“He just showed he’s the most talented basketball player on earth, if not of all-time,” Kerr said, via NBC Chicago. “Honestly. He’s just so gifted. I loved coaching him, and I’m looking forward to doing so again.”
This comment raised some questions, given that Kerr played with Michael Jordan, arguably the greatest player of all time. Well, that didn’t matter for the former guard. Instead, he doubled down on his comments, praising Durant even more.
“I know, I know,” said Kerr after Mathai presented him with that follow-up. “And I think he’s (Durant) more gifted, I really do.
“And that’s saying something, but Kevin is a different, an entirely different breed. I mean, 6-(foot)-11 with guard skills, unlimited 3-point range, passing, shot-blocking at the rim. It’s just stunning.”
Knowing that this man played with Jordan and coached and faced Durant, it’s hard to tell him otherwise. KD indeed is a generational talent and even after returning from an ACL injury, he balled out on the court, trying to lead the Nets to the championship this season.
Unfortunately, he couldn’t get the job done and will try to get revenge next campaign. Kerr will have the chance to work with him in the 2021 OlympĂcs, reuniting with his former player after two years.
