The stories of Michael Jordan’s responses to opposing players challenging him have been etched in stone. It seems every other week there is a newer and bolder story coming out about Jordan and the giant proverbial target on his back. Everyone who stepped on the court against Jordan wanted to prove that they not only belonged there but that they could beat him as well. It usually didn’t work out for the opposition, but that didn’t mean that there were new challengers every season ready to take their shot at the GOAT.

The latest story revealed comes from a game in November 1995 between the Chicago Bulls and Vancouver Grizzlies. The Grizzlies had battled to a tie game heading into the 4th quarter, and Jordan had struggled with just 10 points through the first 3 quarters. According to reports, Grizzlies point guard Darrick Martin seized an opportunity to let Jordan know exactly how he felt when Jordan was out of the game and on the bench.

Jordan responded. He checked himself into the game and proceeded to do exactly what we think he would do, coming from the greatest of all time. Jordan proceeded to take over in the fourth quarter going for 19 points for a total of 29 in the game on 53.8% shooting from the field. He sealed the game with his signature fadeaway. The Bulls prevailed 94-88, and Jordan addressed Martin with a simple quip, “Little man, I told you not to trash talk me.”

As much as I am a player, I am a fan too. I wasn’t a part of many good teams but I wanted to see greatness. I had to bring that out of Michael too because I wanted to see it.”

Darrick Martin Explains How Michael Jordan Destroyed Him After Trash Talk

Darrick Martin is not a household name to the average NBA fan. On this night, Martin made himself a legend, whether it was for the wrong reasons or not. Martin further explains that with the Grizzlies up 9 points with just over 3 minutes left in the game, he doubled down on his challenge to the greatest of all time by stating, “We are up 9 with less than 3 minutes left, ain’t no way you’re beating us tonight.” This was plenty of time for the 5-time MVP to go to work.

Not only did Michael Jordan lead the Bulls to victory, but he destroyed Martin with Words as well. As Martin details in the video above, Jordan looked for Martin after he sealed the game with a jumper for one message and one message only. “See, I told you not to trash talk me you little b***h.”
