NBA Rumors: Carmelo Anthony And Chris Paul Could Reunite And Play For The New York Knicks Next Season

2 Min Read

The New York Knicks have been in a bad way for quite some time now. Years of bad decision making and toxic culture-building have contributed to making the Knicks the literal laughing stock of the NBA.

But with the firings of former head coach David Fizdale and former President of Basketball Operations Steve Mills, there is hope that the Knickerbockers might finally be ready to turn over a new leaf.

This summer may be one of their best opportunities to bring in some fan favorites and establish a winning culture for the franchise. In a recent episode of The Putback, Ian Begley of SportsNet New York tossed up the idea of a Carmelo/CP3 reunion in The Big Apple.

“If his buddy Chris Paul gets traded to the Knicks,” Begley said. “That certainly increases the odds that Carmelo Anthony ends up back here in New York.”

Paul and Anthony played for a short (and dramatic) time together in Houston. With both players well past their prime, the Knicks would be a far-cry from title contenders, but there’s no reason to think it wouldn’t work. Paul’s leadership coupled with Melo’s offense repertoire would be a playoff team that could change the perception regarding New York Knicks basketball.

Needless to say, it would be a much-needed breath of life for an organization that has known only misery and despair for the past couple of decades.

Unfortunately, there’s no guarantee either player will land in New York. Carmelo has already stated his desire to re-sign in Portland while Paul just finished his season in OKC as a borderline MVP candidate. At this stage in their careers, winning must be a priority.

But, who knows, weirder strangers have happened this past year…
