NBA Rumors: Cleveland Cavaliers Considering Trading For Andrew Wiggins

2 Min Read

The thirst for power in Cleveland has the Cavaliers pondering ideas nobody imagined they’d have. Even after an admirable season, the front office isn’t content with standing by and doing nothing this summer.

Now, according to Chris Fedor on the HoopsHype podcast, the organization is considering Andrew Wiggins as a potential target:

“And this is one that I’m watching. I think it’s less likely than it was when the postseason started, but it’s one that I’ve heard kicked around inside the walls of Cleveland. It’s Andrew Wiggins of the Warriors.”

Wiggins, 27, has been key to Golden State’s resurgence this year. After some underwhelming campaigns in Minnesota, he has played his role to perfection in Golden State, averaging 17.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game on 46% shooting.

In a recent chat with the media, veteran forward Draymond Green gave his young teammate a glowing review:

“That’s a guy who has been criticized for being lackadaisical, the beat goes on. We’ve heard it all. Yet on the biggest stage he’s come through. I’ve always said no-one talks about teams that guys are on or organizations that guys are in. No-one ever talks about, it’s always the player fault. He’s showing that I’m not far off when I say that.”

The Warriors are on the books for a lot of money, and Wiggs only has one more year on his current deal. As important as he has been for Golden State, there is a sense he could be acquired for the right price.

In Cleveland, putting him alongside Jarrett Allen and Darius Garland would certainly do wonders for their mission of becoming title contenders. Nevertheless, it remains to be seen whether Wiggs is really a viable option or just a pipe dream for the Cavs.
