NBA Rumors: Gregg Popovich Could Reunite With Kawhi Leonard On The Clippers

After seven years with the organization, Doc Rivers is out as the Los Angeles Clippers coach following a very disappointing loss against the Denver Nuggets in the second round of the playoffs. The Clippers blew a 3-1 lead against the Nuggets, losing important advantages in Games 5 and 6 that gave life to their rivals, who would finish the job in Game 7.

That meltdown was historical and nothing could remain the same after that. Well, Rivers was the one that left the team and now they are in the search for a new coach. Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Tyronn Lue and Jeff Van Gundy were seen as good candidates to take over in Los Angeles, but there could be a dark horse that could take this team to the next level.

Ever since the season finished for the San Antonio Spurs, there have been rumors that Gregg Popovich could be leaving the team to look for a different challenge. The Brooklyn Nets were heavily linked with the veteran coach until they signed Steve Nash and now that a job vacancy is open, Pop’s name has been floating around once again.

A big factor for Pop and the Clippers to go for it is that Kawhi Leonard is the leader of the Californians. He has a history with Popovich and they knew how to be successful together; perhaps it’s time to prove they can be successful again, this time in Los Angeles.

Popovich discovered and developed Kawhi; they went to two NBA Finals, winning one of them with Kawhi earning the FMVP award in 2014. Perhaps this is the move the Clippers need to make to find success with arguably the greatest coach of all time.

Only time will tell if they actually go for it but it looks like a very good possibility for them right now.
