NBA Rumors: Lakers Are The Frontrunners To Sign Andre Drummond

2 Min Read

With news of LaMarcus Aldridge’s arrival in Brooklyn, the Los Angeles Lakers (and every other team for that matter) are left trying to play catch-up.

In the offseason, the Lakers made some important moves, bringing in Dennis Schroder, Montrezl Harrell, Marc Gasol, and Wesley Matthews to fit alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis. But is it enough to overpower a team like the Nets, who have 41 cumulative All-star appearances on their roster?

Fortunately, the Lakers are close to bringing in some help — in the form of All-Star big man, Andre Drummond. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Purple and Gold are “strong” frontrunners to sign him once he officially becomes available.

The Los Angeles Lakers have emerged as strong front-runners to sign center Andre Drummond, sources told ESPN on Saturday night.

Drummond clears waivers on Sunday at 5 p.m. ET but could finalize a commitment to join the Lakers earlier this weekend, sources said.

The Lakers’ star players and front office have been recruiting Drummond hard, selling him on the opportunity to step into the defending champion’s starting lineup, sources said. The Lakers have had inconsistent center play with Marc Gasol and Montrezl Harrell this season, and Drummond’s ability to protect the paint and rebound would allow for him to have a significant impact.

A guy like Drummond fits the mold of what the Lakers are looking for. After giving up Dwight Howard and JaVale McGee, the team has been in desperate need of some size down low. Drummond could provide that and more as a rim-running, shot-blocking big man.

Needless to say, his arrival would be huge in the Lakers’ quest to repeat.

But we’ll see if it’ll be enough…
