The Detroit Pistons are a rebuilding team, and it is quite likely that they are focused on building a contender for the future. They drafted Cade Cunningham with the No. 1 pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, and they also have a variety of other solid young players such as Marvin Bagley III and Isaiah Stewart that could develop into something special.

It seems as though the Detroit Pistons are interested in improving their roster this offseason. Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report has revealed that the Detroit Pistons are “expected to use their cap space to acquire” an “impact player” with players like Collin Sexton and Deandre Ayton being targets for that slot.

The Pistons, sources told B/R, are expected to use their cap space to acquire one impact player in the frontcourt and backcourt. While Brunson and Sexton are known as guards of real interest to fill that backcourt slot, Detroit is said to have an eye on Knicks center Mitchell Robinson, in addition to Phoenix Suns restricted free-agent big man Deandre Ayton.

There is no doubt that any of the 4 players mentioned would help the Detroit Pistons massively. Jalen Brunson and Collin Sexton would give the Detroit Pistons two guards who could take on ballhandling duties, while Mitchell Robinson and Deandre Ayton are both athletic big men that would be good fits with Cade Cunningham. It remains to be seen if the Detroit Pistons do end up acquiring any of them.

Even if the Detroit Pistons do not acquire an “impact player” using their cap space, they still have a bright future. They have the No. 5 pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, and some promising prospects on the roster. The future is bright in Detroit, and we’ll see just how good they will end up being in the future.
