Karl-Anthony Towns is one of the best big men in the game today, and he is quite clearly the best shooting big man in the game today. Towns is known for being a legitimate three-level scorer as a center, and he showed his talent in the 1st round against the Memphis Grizzlies. Karl-Anthony Towns has averaged 21.8 PPG, 10.8 RPG, and 2.0 BPG while shooting 45.5% from beyond the arc.

While it is quite clear that Karl-Anthony Towns is absolute talent, there have been some questions about whether the Minnesota Timberwolves will give him a supermax contract. One NBA Scout who spoke to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype has stated that Karl-Anthony Towns “hasn’t done anything” to be a supermax player, and added that despite his talent, “he’s kind of flaky”:

One NBA scout for a Western Conference team told me, “Quite frankly, I wouldn’t give him the supermax. I don’t think he deserves it. He hasn’t done anything to become a supermax guy. He’s super talented, but he’s kind of flaky.”

Towns and the Timberwolves have only made the playoffs twice in his seven seasons.

The fact that the Minnesota Timberwolves have only made two playoffs during Karl-Anthony Towns’ tenure with the team is definitely a point of concern to some. However, it definitely seems as though things are looking up for them, and they could be a great playoff team for years to come. Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards are a duo that is worth building around.

Karl-Anthony Towns’ current contract will expire in 2024. He is definitely a super talented player that performed fairly well in his 2nd playoff appearance this year. Karl-Anthony Towns’ ability is top-tier, and he still has room to get better as a player. We’ll see what happens regarding his contract situation in the future.
