The Jalen Brunson signing is seemingly costing more than expected for the New York Knicks. The New Yorkers made signing Brunson one of their top priorities this past offseason, and they used interesting tactics to get in touch with Brunson, raising a lot of eyebrows around the league.
During the 2022 NBA playoff, executives and players were spotted at the Dallas Mavericks arena to scout Brunson, who ultimately ended up signing with the team where his father works.
This signing and the prior developments set the alarms in the league. The front office started investigating this situation and finally made a decision on it. Just like they did in prior cases, a draft pick was taken away from the team that broke the rules.
New York Knicks’ 2025 Second-Round Pick Is Removed By The NBA
The league announced today that they’re stripping the Knicks of their 2025 second-round draft pick after they engaged in free agency discussions before teams were allowed to do so, which is a clear violation of the tampering rules.

“This outcome reflected a finding, following an investigation, that the Knicks engaged in free agency discussions involving Jalen Brunson prior to the date when such discussions were permitted. The team fully cooperated with the investigation,” read a statement from the league.
Brunson is now on the Knicks, trying to take this team to the playoffs and so far, things are going good for them. Even though some people like Shaquille O’Neal don’t believe in this team, they’re doing the job and as long as the results keep coming, more people will realize that they’re serious.
However, the season is still young, and it’s too early to make any assumptions about the Knicks. They already surprised everybody in 2021, and perhaps this season, Brunson can take them to the postseason again while becoming one of the best players in his position in the East.
