- The Miami Heat have seven valuable assets to offer the Portland Trail Blazers in a Damian Lillard trade
- The Heat are not going to offer close to all of those assets in a trade
- The team is confident they can win in the East without Lillard
The Miami Heat are a team that has been star-hunting this summer, with Damian Lillard being the player they’ve most recently been linked to. However, it seems as though the Heat are not willing to overpay for the superstar in a trade, based on recent reporting.
A recent report from Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald revealed that the Miami Heat are unwilling to offer all seven of their assets for Damian Lillard. The aforementioned assets include shooting guard Tyler Herro, their future first-round picks, and their young prospects.
“The Heat has as many as seven valuable assets to offer Portland in a trade for guard Damian Lillard.”
“That list includes as many as three tradable first-round picks, Tyler Herro, Nikola Jovic, rookie first-round pick Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Caleb Martin.”
“But the Heat isn’t believed to be offering even close to all seven of those assets.”
There are definitely reasons for the Miami Heat to be wary of trading everything they possibly can for Damian Lillard. The point guard is 32 years old right now and has a contract that runs until the end of the 2026-27 season if Lillard picks up his player option. That could be a problem, especially if Lillard ends up declining as a player due to age. He will make $63.2 million during the 2026-27 season, and having him on the books for that much could rob the Miami Heat of any flexibility.
Still, there is no question that Lillard could.be a difference-maker for the Heat, particularly on the offensive side of the ball. He averaged 32.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 7.3 assists per game while shooting 37.1% from 3PT range. He is still an All-NBA player, and we’ll see if the Heat manage to land him at a reasonable cost.
The Miami Heat Believe They Can Win The East Even Without Damian Lillard
Even though Jimmy Butler is the only superstar on the Miami Heat right now, the team has the utmost confidence in how good they are. It was previously reported that the Heat believe they can win the East even without Lillard, and for good reason. They made the Finals in 2020 and 2023, so it is not as though the front office’s faith in the roster is unfounded.
Still, anytime a player like Damian Lillard becomes available, the team should at least consider acquiring him. The Miami Heat would certainly be a better team with his addition, although it is clear that the high price the Portland Trail Blazers are demanding has complicated matters.
The Miami Heat Have Already Offered A Trade Package For Damian Lillard
The Miami Heat have certainly been in touch with the Portland Trail Blazers already, and it was already revealed that the Heat have offered a package centered around Tyler Herro for Damian Lillard. However, the package only included two first-round picks, and it is easy to see why the Trail Blazers are not enamored with that offer.
It will be interesting to see whether the Miami Heat will end up increasing their offer for Damian Lillard in the future. Thus far it seems unlikely, but it is possible that they will become more desperate the closer the season gets.
