NBA Rumors: The Miami Heat Could Sign Victor Oladipo In Free Agency

3 Min Read

Victor Oladipo is a former All-Star who was part of the blockbuster James Harden trade. Earlier this season, Victor Oladipo was part of the Indiana Pacers, before he got traded to the Houston Rockets as a piece in the trade. Oladipo has settled in well with the Houston Rockets, but the team has lost their last 10 games.

Recently, Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer stated that Victor Oladipo could get traded by the Houston Rockets. Pompey’s reasoning was that since Victor Oladipo is in the last year of his contract, he might be traded. Pompey also mentioned that many around the league believe that Oladipo could sign with the Miami Heat in free agency. Earlier this season, it was reported that Oladipo had hoped to get traded to the Miami Heat once he landed with the Rockets.

Some around the league think Oladipo could be a candidate to sign a contract with the Miami Heat during the upcoming free-agency period. So one has to imagine that the Rockets will look to move the two-time All-Star they acquired in a four-team deal that sent James Harden to the Brooklyn Nets.

Moving Oladipo before the March 25 trade deadline would enable the Rockets to get something in return for someone they’re expected to lose at season’s end. It would only make sense to keep him if they felt that team could contest for the Western Conference title.

That’s far from the case.

It would make complete sense for the Houston Rockets to trade a player on an expiring contract in order to get some sort of compensation before the player hits free agency. While nothing is certain just yet, this could be something to keep an eye on as the league heads towards the trade deadline. If Victor Oladipo is truly interested in joining the Miami Heat, then there’s no reason for the Houston Rockets to keep him on the roster if he will leave at the end of the year.

Having Victor Oladipo next to the Miami Heat core would undoubtedly be exciting. Victor Oladipo and Jimmy Butler would be an elite two-way tandem. Victor Oladipo could be the missing piece for the Miami Heat to win a championship, after falling slightly short last season.
