The Dallas Mavericks have recently expressed their interest in the possibility of acquiring the Washington Wizards forward, Otto Porter Jr.
According to The Athletic’s Michael Scotto, the Wizards are more than likely to look for a suitable team to make a deal with for both Porter and Bradley Beal before the trade deadline occurs on the 7th of February.
It’s been a rough start to the season for the Wizards with John Wall needing surgery because of an Achilles injury which will rule the All-Star guard for the next six to eight months. The team has been avoiding a proper full-scale rebuild but with the absence of Wall, the side may need to face the unfortunate facts.
Otto Porter has one more year left on his deal before he’s eligible for free agency. If the Wizards are planning to get the most they can from Porter then trading him now may be the best move for the future of their franchise.
Porter averaged a career-high 14.7 points last season and has spent his entire career so far in Washington, he posses a lot of value for a side who may be contending for a playoffs spot. The Mavericks who have been led by rookie Luka Doncic are a team that could steal one of the final spots within the Western Conference Playoffs.
The Wizards have been a dysfunctional mess so far this season so a new location and new on-court atmosphere may be the best thing for Porter’s career.
