Russell Westbrook will not be wearing the Orange and Blue anytime soon.

According to NBA Insider Marc Stein, the Knicks have absolutely no interest in a trade for the former MVP, who has one year left on his current deal.

A new report indicates that the New York Knicks are not interested in the idea of adding Los Angeles Lakers guard Russell Westbrook. Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report spoke with Marc Stein and indicated that the Knicks’ lack of interest has been evident for a while. ”I pitched the idea to Knicks people time and again going back to the deadline, and they have no interest,” Fischer said. “… Everything I’ve heard is that New York is trying to grow this group as it is and mix and match a few parts and move forward.”

By all accounts, the Westbrook experiment has been a failure for the Lakers so far. With averages of 18.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 7.2 assists per game on 43% shooting, he’s having one of the worst seasons of his career.

Unfortunately, the Lakers may be stuck with him for at least another year.

The Knicks, who are back to their dysfunctional ways, are a team that has long been linked to the 9x All-Star. Between Westbrook’s well-known name and electric playstyle, he’s the type of guy Knicks fans would love to have. But after failing to gather momentum from their run to the playoffs last season, the franchise is unwilling to take a risk that could worsen their position.

Despite needing a point guard, and having a record of 32-42, trading for Westbrook is seemingly off the table for the Knickerbockers.

Like it or not, he’ll be wearing the Purple and Gold for the foreseeable future.
