The Phoenix Suns could soon face a franchise-altering decision regarding Devin Booker, with reports suggesting they could receive a massive haul in return if they choose to move on from their star guard. According to Duane Rankin of The Arizona Republic, Phoenix could net four first-round picks and a rising star in his third or fourth year in exchange for Booker.

Given the Suns’ current struggles, sitting at 30-34 and outside of the playoff picture despite having a star-studded trio of Booker, Kevin Durant, and Bradley Beal, a trade could offer them a path toward a much-needed roster reset.

Booker, now 28, remains one of the NBA’s most elite scorers, averaging 26.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 6.9 assists this season while shooting 45.7% from the field, 34.5% from deep, and 89.4% from the free-throw line.

However, his presence alongside Durant and Beal has failed to turn Phoenix into a true championship contender. The Suns are currently burdened with one of the league’s most expensive rosters, with their “Big Three” set to earn a combined $150 million next season, an untenable situation under the new NBA salary cap restrictions.

While Booker has remained loyal to the Suns, spending his entire career in Phoenix since being drafted 13th overall in 2015, teams around the league are monitoring the situation closely.

The Houston Rockets are reportedly interested in acquiring Booker, viewing him as a perfect addition to their young, rising core.

Meanwhile, the San Antonio Spurs have also been mentioned as a possible suitor, with analysts suggesting they could leverage their vast collection of draft picks to form a trio of Booker, De’Aaron Fox, and Victor Wembanyama. A proposed Spurs package could include Devin Vassell, Chris Paul, and multiple first-round picks.

For the Suns, moving Booker would not be an easy decision, as he has been the face of the franchise for nearly a decade. However, with Durant nearing the twilight of his career at 36 years old and Beal struggling to stay healthy, Phoenix may have to consider a full-scale rebuild rather than continuing with an underperforming and financially restrictive core.

Trading Booker could allow the Suns to replenish their draft assets, something they sorely lack after dealing away multiple picks in the trades for Durant and Beal.

If the Suns ultimately decide to keep Booker, they will need to find a way to restructure their roster around him.

But if a team like Houston or San Antonio comes calling with a package featuring multiple first-round picks and a young star, Phoenix may have to consider whether moving on from their franchise cornerstone is the best move for the long-term future of the organization.
