The NBA is always looking for new and exciting ways to attract new fans, and their latest project in Toronto could be one of their most interesting moves yet.

Announced earlier this season, the league will open its first-ever restaurant that will feature basketball-themed artwork and a shop in downtown Toronto.

“NBA Courtside Restaurant will showcase the stages of an NBA player’s journey from dreamer to champion through artwork and décor inspired by the league and its influence on popular culture, including historic moments from NBA history. The dining rooms will feature artwork by artists KWEST, Victor Solomon, and others. Guests will be able to view a series of NBA Top Shot Moments featuring some of the top plays from the NBA season on display in the restaurant,” wrote the NBA in a statement. “The retail space within NBA Courtside Restaurant will offer a curated collection of both Official NBA and Exclusive NBA Courtside Restaurant apparel and merchandise from 47 Brand, New Era, Mitchell & Ness and Wilson, and will feature a selection of prints and products featuring custom illustrations by Dupuis.”

We don’t have word on the menu yet, but it would be cool if they incorporated the favorite foods of basketball legends into the experience. Whatever the case, if this restaurant proves to be successful, it could lead to a rise in similar businesses across the globe.

Could The NBA Add An Expansion Team Soon?

As the NBA continues to grow and succeed in its goals, there has been more talk surfacing about a potential expansion that could see the birth of brand-new teams.

“NBA commissioner Adam Silver says Mexico City is ‘doing everything necessary’ to be considered for an NBA expansion team. Silver added that after the next CBA the NBA could grow and there is ‘no doubt’ expansion in Mexico is considered,” wrote Marc Spears. “Silver says it’s ‘certainly possible’ when asked about having an NBA All-Star Game in Mexico City possibly “over time” but not in the near future. Silver adds that Mexico City is capable of hosting on NBA All-Star Game weekend.”

Clearly, the NBA is still a number of years out from adding an expansion team, but they’ve been hard at work finding other ways to grow the NBA.

Maybe next, the league will build an exclusive basketball-themed hotel for travelers who want to attend a game away from home…
