The Boston Celtics escaped with a narrow 107-105 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves. Jayson Tatum was asked after the game about Anthony Edwards‘ comments about him on the Netflix show ‘Starting 5’. Tatum showed love to Edwards, praising his game, and didn’t seem to hold anything against him.

“I saw it. We were talking a lot of sh*t with each other during the summer. I’ve got a pretty good record against Minnesota in my career. That was the one time [we lost]. It’s fun. They are a really good team. Well coached. They got some talent over there. I’m certain in the near future, games against those guys will be really fun.”

Edwards famously questioned why Jayson Tatum was considered the best player in the NBA after a win over the Celtics last season, a moment that was captured by the Netflix crew for the show.

“Y’all talking about ‘best player in the league’. Y’all tripping.”

Tatum got a measure of revenge over Edwards tonight, as he put up 26 points (8-21 FG), eight rebounds, four assists, and two steals. He made 5-12 shots from deep, which played a big role in the Celtics extending their winning streak to five games.

In comparison, Anthony Edwards had near identical numbers, putting up 28 points (9-21 FG), nine rebounds, and seven assists while shooting 6-11 from beyond the arc. It was great to see two of the NBA’s best players put on a show that entertained fans.

Edwards is famous for talking trash, and him questioning Tatum wasn’t necessarily intended as a slight on the latter, but rather a show of confidence in himself. It will be interesting to see if both players continue to go at each other in future games against each other.

Tatum Speaks Highly Of Edwards

Continuing to speak during the post-game press conference, Jayson Tatum lavished Anthony Edwards with praise. He noted that Edwards regularly brought up their game last year while they were at the Olympics together. Tatum added how much he enjoys playing against Edwards, who he called one of the best players in the NBA.

“We had two games against each other. And obviously, we spent the summer together with each other at the Olympics. I love Ant. He’s a hell of a player, hell of a competitor. He talks a lot. He had a lot to say this summer about the game we played last year… You enjoy playing against the other best players in the league. It’s always fun and competitive.”

There doesn’t seem to be any ill-will on Tatum’s end about the comments from Edwards. In the end, despite, the young Timberwolves star’s comments, Tatum got the last laugh, as he and the Celtics went on to win the NBA championship last season.

Tatum has been great this season so far, as he has averaged 28.9 points, 8.2 rebounds, 5.9 assists, 1.5 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game, on 45/37/80 shooting splits. Edwards has put up similar numbers, with 27.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 1.1 steals, and 0.6 blocks per game on 47/43/80 shooting splits.

Fans will no doubt look forward to the next encounter between the Timberwolves and Celtics, as the two stars seem to bring the best out of each other. They will have to wait a while, as their next game takes place on January 2nd at 7:30 PM EST.
