Jayson Tatum is used to getting a lot of hate, but he never could have imagined that his own son, Deuce, would one day join in on the party. The two crossed paths with Kevin Garnett after the 2025 Slam Dunk Contest at All-Star Weekend when Deuce told the Hall of Famer that his father couldn’t pull off any of the dunks he just saw.

Deuce Tatum: “My daddy couldn’t even do any of those dunks.”

Kevin Garnett: “He couldn’t do any of those dunks?”

Deuce: “No.”

Jayson Tatum: “Why you hating?”

That was brutal. Even Garnett was a little bit surprised to hear Deuce say that, which lets you know just how wild of a comment that was.

To be fair to Tatum, he certainly could pull off some of the less impressive dunks that we saw in the contest from Andre Jackson Jr. and Matas Buzelis. Those wouldn’t have been all too difficult for an athlete like him.

As for Stephon Castle and Mac McClung’s dunks, well, you wouldn’t fancy Tatum’s chances at pulling those off. McClung’s would have been difficult to perform for almost everyone in the NBA, which was why he won with four perfect scores. The triumph also made him the first player ever to win the contest three years in a row.

Following McClung’s victory, Ja Morant hinted that he could take part next year and hit up Zach LaVine and Aaron Gordon. The two seem up for it as well, and perhaps Tatum should throw his name in too, to show Deuce what he is capable of.

Jayson Tatum Reveals His Favorite Nickname

Tatum’s nickname has been a big talking point recently, thanks to FS1’s Colin Cowherd. Cowherd ruthlessly called Tatum ‘The Password’ because he’s commonly forgotten and ridiculed him for having a nickname like ‘The Anomaly.’ So, after the Boston Celtics beat the Los Angeles Lakers 111-101 on Friday night, the six-time All-Star was asked if he had a favorite nickname.

“Yeah,” Tatum said. “Depending on our relationship, certain people call me different things. A lot of my friends do call me ‘Taco,’ ‘Big Deuce.’ I’ve seen Portland tweeted out ‘The Anomaly.’”

Tatum, who had 40 points (12-28 FG), 12 rebounds, eight assists, two steals, and a block against the Lakers, revealed he does not like that nickname and ended his press conference by stating that ‘Big Deuce’ is the one he prefers the most. That, of course, is a play on his son’s nickname, as Deuce’s actual name is Jayson Tatum Jr.

Deuce was born to Tatum and his ex-girlfriend, Toriah Lachell, in December 2017. Tatum wasn’t too happy when he learned about her pregnancy months earlier, as he was just a teenager at the time and was only a few months away from being drafted.

While Tatum might have been cursing his fortune at the time, he sure is glad now to have Deuce by his side. The two share quite a special bond, and by all accounts, he has been a terrific father to the child.
