The Brooklyn Nets have set a high price for forward Cam Johnson ahead of the NBA trade deadline, seeking two first-round picks or an equivalent package that includes young players or other valuable assets, as per Brian Lewis from the New York Post. This steep asking price reflects Johnson’s impressive production and team-friendly contract, making him one of the most coveted players on the trade market.

Johnson, who has become a focal point of the Nets’ offense, is averaging career highs across the board in his sixth NBA season. He’s putting up 19.6 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game on highly efficient shooting splits—49.6% from the field, 42.8% from beyond the arc, and 89.7% from the free-throw line—putting him on the cusp of the prestigious 50/40/90 club.

At 28 years old and under contract until 2027, Johnson represents both immediate impact and long-term value, making him a hot commodity among contending teams.

Despite their struggles this season, including a 14-28 record and a disappointing 0-9 record without Johnson, the Nets are not under pressure to move him. They view him as a core player in their rebuild and are willing to part ways only if they receive a significant return. The team is in a strategic position, leveraging Johnson’s breakout performance to secure substantial assets that align with their long-term plans.

Several teams, including the Cleveland Cavaliers, Oklahoma City Thunder, and Sacramento Kings, have expressed interest in Johnson. However, meeting Brooklyn’s high asking price has proven challenging. The Kings are reportedly the most serious suitor, offering a package centered around a first-round pick, Kevin Huerter, and Trey Lyles.

The Nets’ steep asking price for Cam Johnson has drawn interest from several teams, including the Denver Nuggets, who have reportedly discussed a potential swap involving Michael Porter Jr.

The Golden State Warriors are also keen on acquiring Johnson to boost their wing depth, while the Los Angeles Lakers are heavily intrigued by his two-way versatility and three-point shooting.

Johnson’s value lies not only in his offensive versatility but also in his ability to play multiple roles. He’s an elite shooter who can space the floor, create off the dribble, and contribute defensively. Moreover, his contract, which takes up just 13% of the salary cap over the next two seasons, is an added bonus for teams looking to maximize their cap space while adding a high-impact player.

With less than a month until the February 6 trade deadline, the Nets’ front office holds significant leverage. They could retain Johnson and revisit trade options during the offseason when more teams have flexibility, or they could wait for an offer that meets their demands. As of now, the Kings appear to be the frontrunners if the Nets decide to part with Johnson.

Cam Johnson’s trade rumors highlight his growing reputation as one of the league’s most reliable and efficient forwards. The Nets are wisely setting a high price, ensuring they maximize value in any potential deal. Whether Johnson is moved or stays in Brooklyn, his performance this season has solidified his status as a key player in the league.
