Kyrie Irving has never been one to shy away from speaking his mind and he went on quite a rant about racism on his latest Twitch stream. Irving, who is currently sidelined with a torn ACL, called racism the dumbest thing ever.

“Growing up in this society and just because you have this skin tone, you have different rules that you got to abide by,” Irving said. “Or you can’t be proud of your history because you’re this skin tone. People really got killed because they were a different skin tone. Bro, you know how stupid that is?

“You know how ignorant you’ve gotta be to put somebody in a tree and hang them because they’re Black? That’s probably the dumbest s*** I’ve ever heard, to be honest with you,” Irving stated. “… You really don’t like somebody because they’re a different color, they’re a different religion? That’s the dumbest s*** ever for me.

“I don’t get along with people like that and I don’t have time to listen to people like that,” Irving continued. “Literally, you’re trying to downplay the fact of racism and then say pick up your bootstraps and work harder, when there’s a whole system designed to oppress people that have darker skin tones.

“So, you can judge me when you see me at the basketball court,” Irving added. “You can say all these nasty things. People have said nasty things at me before, I’ve heard people say different things to people before, but you don’t even f***ing know who I am.”

Irving hopes for humanity to be a coexisting community where race, culture, class, and religion are not always at the forefront. He also added that he isn’t asking anyone not to put their God first, but made it clear there is no religion in the world that promotes hatred toward others. That is indeed true.

Irving has stirred controversy with his comments in the past, but he was on point with a lot of what he said here. It’s unlikely the world will change to the way he wants, though, as there is just way too much hate in society today.

There was a lot that Irving wanted to get off his chest in this stream. Kyrie went off on the retired players in the media and called them out for hating on today’s players all the time. He also rubbished suggestions that his ACL tear had anything to do with the Dallas Mavericks making him play extended minutes after trading Luka Doncic.

Irving also hilariously called out a fan for asking to put his sister Asia on full screen. He also wildly told people not to let their “gooner” thoughts win.

All in all, it was quite an eventful stream. With Irving having plenty of time on his hands as he recovers from injury, it will be interesting to see if he chooses to stream more often.

Kyrie had averaged 24.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.6 assists, 1.3 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game in 2024-25 before tearing his ACL in a game against the Sacramento Kings on March 3. We’re unlikely to see him play again in 2025 and he could well end up being out for more than a year.
