The Dallas Wings dropped to 9-31 in this 2025 WNBA season following a 100-78 loss to the Atlanta Dream on Friday. It’s been a difficult season for the Wings, and star rookie Paige Bueckers brought up Stephen Curry’s famous statement from 2009 when asked if she had a message for the fans and her teammates postgame.

“I mean, just to stick with it,” Bueckers said. “Whoever we have in that locker room, whoever puts on a Wings jersey that night, that’s who we’re going to war with, and that’s what we believe in. We don’t need exterior belief. In that locker room, we feel like we have enough, and we’re always gonna fight and show up that way.

“And I remember Steph Curry, before the Warriors became the Warriors, he tweeted out, like, ‘Just stick with us. We’re gonna figure it out,'” Bueckers continued. “That’s the message. The people we have here and the belief that I have in the core and the pieces that we’re building and how we’re doing it, I just have this undying belief in it.”

Like Bueckers, Curry had put out the message during his rookie season with the Golden State Warriors. The Warriors had dropped to 2-5 in 2009-10 after a 108-94 loss to the Indiana Pacers on Nov. 11, 2009, and the guard felt compelled to speak out on X.

“Promise to all the Warrior fans…we will figure this thing out…if it’s the last thing we do we will figure it out.”

It took Curry and the Warriors quite a lot of time to figure things out. They would go 26-56 in 2009-10, and followed that up by posting a 36-46 record in 2010-11.

That was a step in the right direction, but Curry then missed much of the 2011-12 season due to injury, and the Warriors slid to 23-43 as a result. It didn’t seem like there was going to be light at the end of the tunnel, but their fortunes did change for the better.

Curry and the Warriors made the playoffs in 2013 and 2014 to give their fans renewed hope. Then in 2015, they won it all, and that would be the beginning of a dynastic run.

Curry has now led the Warriors to four championships, and they’ve been the most successful team over the last decade or so. No one would have seen this coming after his first three seasons in the NBA.

Could Bueckers lead the Wings to glory in a similar fashion? Well, it’s hard to say, but the 23-year-old is all set to become a superstar in the WNBA. The 23-year-old is averaging 18.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, 5.4 assists, 1.6 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game as a rookie for the Wings.

Bueckers set a new WNBA record for most points in a game by a rookie with 44 against the Los Angeles Sparks back on Aug. 20. Chet Holmgren and Ja Morant praised her for that performance, and she’s sure to have many more of these in the coming years.

As for Curry, he has gas left in the tank to deliver many more special performances of his own. The 37-year-old averaged 24.5 points, 4.4 rebounds, 6.0 assists, 1.1 steals, and 0.4 blocks per game for the Warriors in 2024-25. Curry remains one of the best players in the game today, and he is chasing that fifth championship.
