In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Lakers owner Jeanie Buss opened up on various topics pertaining to wrestling, comic books, and the future of her iconic NBA franchise. On the subject of this summer’s offseason, Buss says she’s a believer in her group and that she doesn’t put too much stock into what the critics are saying online.

“Really, you gotta play basketball and win games. I know the criticism out there. I know social media is rough waters for everybody,” said Buss. “There’s always controversy being stirred up on social media. That’s why it doesn’t really serve me to hype everything up. It’s just, you gotta do the work. And that’s how our organization operates. We do the work. We worry about what we can control and let the work speak for itself.”

Jeanie has been a somewhat controversial owner since she took the role from her father in 2013. Her heart for the franchise is undoubtful but many fans and experts question her decision-making as the woman in charge.

She oversaw some of the worst years in franchise history and was leading a team in total decline until LeBron James’ arrival changed everything in 2018. Instead of delegating leadership to the most qualified experts, Buss left the decision-making in the hands of her closest friends, Kurt Rambis, Linda Rambis, and her former fiance, Phil Jackson.

It was years of misery and pain before things turned around under Rob Pelinka. His arrival marked the start of a new era for the Lakers and by the time that 2019 rolled around, the Purple and Gold were poised to compete for a title with LeBron James and Anthony Davis at the helm.

Today, five years later, James and Davis are still at the center of everything for the Lakers. Through their strength and greatness, the franchise has remained competitive in the West and they even won the championship during the COVID-ravaged season in 2020.

But after finishing 7th in the standings last season, and losing in the first round to the Denver Nuggets, the situation has changed once again for the Lakers and fans are desperate to see them improve.

The team came into the summer hopeful for moves but they failed to acquire anybody new except their two rookies, Bronny James and Dalton Knecht. Now, with the Lakers set to run it back, critics and doubters have come out in full force to condemn the franchise and their chances to win the title.

Against juggernauts like the Nuggets, Thunder, Mavericks, and Timberwolves, the Lakers will be underdogs but they cannot be counted out completely. After watching LeBron and Davis achieve greatness first-hand, Jeanie Buss still believes they are good enough to make a run and it won’t be long before we find out for ourselves how right or wrong she really is.

No matter what happens going forward, Buss will always keep her faith in LeBron James and you can’t blame her for doing that after all that he’s done over the past 21 years. As he nears the end of his career LeBron is on a mission to win one last title and only a fool would say he has no chance to get it done.
