The Los Angeles Lakers picked up their most famous win of the season on Sunday when they blew the OKC Thunder out 126-99 on the road. The Thunder got a chance to exact their revenge tonight, which they did by defeating the Lakers 136-120. The game was evenly poised for most of the evening and was a one-point game in the fourth quarter,
However, that’s when the referees decided to eject Luka Doncic for trash-talking a fan. This led to the Lakers falling to a 20-point deficit before losing the game by 16. Fans believe this moment ruined the game and ensured OKC would take the win.
Fans are furious at how this game ended.
“Potential game of the year, and the referee threw Luka out of the game for talking to a fan. I wonder why ratings are dead,” said one very angry fan.
“That fan in OKC who just got Luka ejected deserves at least a 5th place MVP vote. Got the ref to think Luka’s venom was directed at him. 10/10 bait,” said Rob Perez about how the fan who Doncic was talking to deserves the credit for the win.
“Game was over as soon as Luka got ejected,” said another despondent Lakers fan.
“OKC can’t beat the Lakers with Luka. Refs screwed the Lakers,” said a fan looking at the bright side from this, which is the Lakers competitiveness against OKC all season.
“Bad Luka ejection. Refs have main character syndrome. Ruined a good game,” said a Celtics fan who was still upset at how the game ended.
“I just watched Draymond elbow a dude in the face in front of an official and stay in the game. Luka getting thrown out for that is total BS,” said one angry fan who thinks there’s an officiating double standard when it comes to Luka.
It would’ve been really exciting to see this game enter clutch time to see who can seal the win. Unfortunately, Doncic’s ejection just guaranteed the Lakers can’t find the offensive production needed to keep OKC at bay. Up until the ejection, it was quite a wonderful game which would’ve come down to the wire.
LeBron James led the Lakers with 28 points (8-19 FG) and seven rebounds. Austin Reaves had 24 points (6-12 FG) with five rebounds and five assists, while Doncic tallied 23 points (7-15 FG) and five assists before his ejection. Dorian Finney-Smith was the only other Lakers to score in double digits with 12 points (4-8 FG).
The Thunder had Shai Gilgeous-Alexander lead all scorers in the game with 42 points (14-26 FG), alongside six rebounds and six assists, while co-star Jalen Williams put up 26 points (11-21 FG). Lu Dort had an impressive 17 points (6-11 FG), while Chet Holmgren had 14 points (5-12 FG) and two blocks.
