LeBron James is once again being accused of lying, this time over comments he made to comedian Desi Banks recently. Banks revealed in a viral video that he had been ignored after DM’ing James for a jersey and the Los Angeles Lakers star hilariously claimed he just doesn’t use social media a lot.

Desi Banks: “I DM’d Bron for the jersey but I couldn’t get the jersey but it’s all (good).”

LeBron James: “I mean I ain’t even really on social like that.”

Banks: “(laughs)”

James: “You know what they say? … I don’t never be on social media like that.”

Banks: “But next game I’m getting the jersey right Bron?”

James: “Next game I got you.”

Banks: “Hey, I’mma keep him to that now.”

James was almost certainly lying about not using social media all that much but it was in good fun and Banks realized that too. The 40-year-old is one of the more active NBA stars online.

James posts on X every now and then and routinely puts out stories on Instagram too. Only some of them appear to be curated by his social media team, so he is certainly online a fair bit.

As for the jersey, you’d think if Banks really wanted it, James wouldn’t have a problem giving him one. These two appear to be friends, with the four-time NBA champion even following Banks on Instagram. They crossed paths last year too, with Banks posting a picture of them together.

James isn’t the only NBA icon with whom Banks appears to have become friends as well. Back in December, Stephen Curry gave him a signed jersey and despite being an Under Armor athlete, even agreed to sign his Nike Air Force sneakers.

You certainly wouldn’t feel too bad for Banks now even if James refuses to ever give him a jersey. The 31-year-old has got the only Nike sneaker that Curry has signed and that’s quite a piece of sports memorabilia to have in one’s possession.

Getting back to James, he did briefly step away from social media last year. On Nov. 20, 2024, LeBron took a shot at sports media for being negative and announced he was taking a break from social media.

James was off for nearly a month, as he only returned on Dec. 16, 2024. He has been fairly active since then and you’d hope he doesn’t take another break anytime soon.

As for James’ play on the court, he and the Lakers are on a roll. He is averaging 23.7 points, 7.6 rebounds, 9.0 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.6 blocks per game in 2024-25 for a Lakers team that currently has a 25-18 record. They are on a three-game win streak and are seven games over .500 for the first time this season.

The Lakers will look to make that eight when they take on the Charlotte Hornets at Spectrum Center on Monday at 7 PM ET.
