Anthony Edwards Slams Dillon Brooks For Dirty Play In Wolves Win Over Rockets

Anthony Edwards wasn't a fan of what Houston Rockets forward Dillon Brooks tried to do during the Rockets clash against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Minnesota Timberwolves picked up a much-needed 127-114 home win over the Houston Rockets last night, finally promoting the Timberwolves to the No. 6 seed for the first time in months. However, swingman Anthony Edwards couldn’t enjoy the glory because of an on-court beef with Rockets forward Dillon Brooks.

Brooks and Edwards got tangled up several times during the game, as Brooks was Edwards’ primary defender. This led to a heated moment in the second quarter after Brooks overcommitted on a steal and hit Edwards’ face, upsetting the Wolves star.

Edwards is a passionate player, but he’s rarely seen to lose his cool on the court. He looked furious after that possession and was backed up by his teammates. Nonetheless, it was infuriating to Edwards who let his feelings be known to the media after the game.

“I love the competing part, but like all the little slick little dirty s–t, like he hit me in the face, and then I fell and then he like, ‘How much crying you gonna do?’ I’m like, ‘Bruh, you hit me in my motherf***king face. What do you want me to do?”

“I don’t like that part. Like, don’t do something and act like you didn’t do it, you know what I’m saying? But I love all the competitiveness. Like, we can compete all day, we can talk s**t all day, but when you get to doing that, it’s more than basketball at that point.”

“A couple of years ago when he was with Memphis, he did the same thing and I reacted the same way. I don’t mind you competing, grabbing, pushing, doing all that, because I love that and I will do that back. But the moment you start using your fists and sh*t, it’s like, alright man. We’re all grown men, we’re not finna do that. He think he got a reputation.”

“The competing part if perfect. I love to watch him play and everything he do for his team out there, but sometimes, he gets a little too carried away.”

Edwards put up 41 points (11-25 FG), seven rebounds, and six assists in the win, dominating the Rockets in an excellent performance. Brooks had 15 points (6-13 FG) in response but did play strong defense on Edwards, which led to his relatively inefficient shooting night.

Brooks has a reputation for infuriating stars on the opposing team. He’s been doing it since his time with the Memphis Grizzlies, with his antics in the 2022-23 season putting a huge target on the Grizzlies back against teams like the Lakers and Warriors. The Grizzlies blamed Brooks for their first-round exit in the 2023 Playoffs and didn’t bring him back.

The Rockets valued his villain tendencies, and he’s thrived here over the last two seasons. He’s averaging 13.6 points and 3.8 rebounds, playing a crucial veteran role alongside Fred VanVleet to change the culture in the squad. He was a part of their first .500 finish in five seasons last year and has been a crucial part of their Playoff push this season.

Edwards is averaging 27.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.5 assists this season. He’s a superstar, so players like Brooks will do everything they can to get them off their game. If that includes potentially playing dirty, that won’t stop them, as we saw in this clash as well.
