The New York Knicks gave us the first splash of trade season when they sent young forward RJ Barrett to the Raptors in exchange for defensive wing, OG Anunoby. It was an undoubtedly solid move for the Knickerbockers, but it may be just the beginning of a busy stretch for them. In the latest update on the Knicks, league insider Matt Moore revealed some of the plans in New York and what they want to do next after their most recent trade.

“Notably, the Knicks have no intention of including the injured Mitchell Robinson, even if he were healthy… Multiple sources said the Knicks have indicated they want to start Towns next to Robinson, similar to how the Wolves have had what come considered surprising success with Towns next to Gobert.”

Picked 36th overall in 2018, Robinson has been a fine center for the Knicks and he’s helped them establish one of the best interior defenses in the league. But his limited game on offense leaves much to be desired, and it holds the Knicks back in many ways. With an upgrade in the position, the Knicks could get one step closer to contention and Towns could be the guy they need to put them over the top.

The Odd Man Out In Minnesota?

As the top seed in the West, it’s more than unlikely that the Wolves would do something as drastic as trade a multiple-time All-Star. While Towns certainly has his flaws, he’s arguably one of the best offensive centers in the game with a pure shooting stroke and above-average handles for his size. This season, he’s averaging 21.4 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game on 50.5% shooting.

Even so, Towns hasn’t always been a good fit for this group. Just last season, as the Wolves were struggling, it was Towns who was lingering as a potential piece all year long. Now that they are winning, it will take a ridiculous offer to pull Towns away from the Timberwolves but a guy this skilled and this good has the potential to change the game for them in a way that not every player would. It remains to be seen if the Knicks have enough to make a compelling offer but don’t be surprised if they find a way to pull this off and bring another star to New York City to play with Jalen Brunson and Julius Randle.

Knicks Are On The Verge

The OG Anunoby trade gave the Knicks another two-way player that can be used in various matchups. Now, the jury is still out on what kind of impact he’ll make on the Knicks, but he’s looking comfortable enough so far with averages of 14.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 2.0 steals per game on 57% shooting. The Knicks are 2-0 since he joined the lineup and are now 19-15 on the season.

While not the favorites to win, the Kicks have to be taken seriously as a playoff threat, and one more move for someone like Karl-Anthony Towns will force everyone to reconsider their place in the East. For now, let’s just see how they incorporate their newest addition to the fold.
