Nikola Jokic has established himself as the greatest basketball player from Serbia in NBA history. Jokic’s accomplishments outrank any other Serbian player in the NBA. But Jokic revealed that another Serbian sports icon reached out to him recently, while he is playing in the NBA Finals.

Speaking after Game 4 of the NBA Finals, Nikola Jokic was asked about winning an NBA championship while Serbian tennis legend Novak Djokovic is on the verge of winning the Roland-Garros French Open. Jokic noted that he admired Djokovic and that Djokovic even texted him ahead of the NBA Finals.

“Actually, he texted me. For real!”, Jokic said. “He texted me, yes. He texted me. I didn’t lie. He’s amazing of course, in his court, and he’s making history every time. Probably he’s going to go [down] as one of the best ever, if not the best ever.”

“He has a nice opportunity to win another one, he’s just an amazing sport, and having him as a countryman that can represent us in the world is, I take it as a great honor. I think the people in Serbia are really happy that we have him as our countryman.”

Nikola Jokic, much like Djokovic, has been a great representative of Serbia as an athlete. Jokic is a two-time MVP, and just one win away from winning the NBA championship for the first time in his career.

Nikola Jokic Is A Serbian Legend

Nikola Jokic is one of the greatest Serbian athletes of all time. Novak Djokovic himself showered Jokic with praise recently, calling him the pride of Serbia and the best basketball player in the world.

Nikola Jokic can cement himself as one of the all-time greats with an NBA championship and a potential Finals MVP. But Jokic will not get complacent, as he needs to be in top form to close out this series and secure the NBA championship.
