The Miami Heat have a fascinating summer ahead of them as they look to make the right tweaks to a squad that shocked the world and went to the NBA Finals as an eighth seed this season.

The team has been active in looking for trades, being linked to Damian Lillard and Bradley Beal. Heat guard Tyler Herro is expected to be the centerpiece in a trade for Dame, but Pat Riley has come out and called Herro a franchise anchor along with Bam Adebayo.

“He gets bigger in those moments… We’ve seen it time and again, from the bubble to here. We’ve got two anchors in Bam and Tyler.”

Herro is still just 23 years old, so he has some time to develop and provide more to the Heat. They made their Finals run without him, proving to the team that they could use him as a trade piece for an established star. Whether Riley said that to bump Herro’s value or because he actually believes it is something, we will have to wait and see.

Will Tyler Herro Remain On The Heat?

Herro played a crucial role in creating offense for the Heat throughout the season, averaging 20.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.2 assists for another season as a 20-point scorer. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like his scoring always translates to wins, given the Heat’s struggles through 82 games before immense success in the playoffs without Herro.

If a player like Lillard can be acquired, the Heat will move Herro without a second doubt. But trading him for the sake of trading him might not be the right way to approach this situation. He definitely can be considered as an anchor of the franchise given he’s still ascending in the league, but the Heat need to win now. Doing that with someone like Dame instead of Herro will always be the path they’ll go down.
