- Patrick Beverley thinks Anthony Edwards will “get out of Minnesota”
- The point guard noted that this is “just what happens”
- Anthony Edwards signed a five-year, $260 million deal with the Timberwolves this offseason
Shooting guard Anthony Edwards is one of the top young talents in the league right now, and there is no doubt that he has superstar potential. He is clearly the face of the Minnesota Timberwolves, and the franchise has done its best to build around him, with the team notably trading for Rudy Gobert ahead of the 2022-23 season.
With that being said, many believe that Anthony Edwards will eventually leave the Minnesota Timberwolves. In fact, former teammate Patrick Beverley, who played with the guard during the 2021-22 season, claimed that this is “just what happens”.
“He will get out of Minnesota. That’s just what happens. That’s no disrespect to Minny. With that personality, he can change the world with basketball. He is the type of player that you need to see”

It remains to be seen if Anthony Edwards will in fact request a trade from the Minnesota Timberwolves at some point in his career. As of right now, the star is locked in for the long term, as Anthony Edwards signed a five-year, $260 million contract extension with the Timberwolves this summer. A lot of stars do end up leaving small markets for bigger markets though, and that is just part of being in the NBA.
This past season, Anthony Edwards averaged 24.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game for the Minnesota Timberwolves. It will be interesting to see what sort of leap he makes this season, and perhaps Edwards can make an All-NBA team this year.
Anthony Edwards Has Been Compared To Dwyane Wade
As of right now, it is fair to say that Anthony Edwards is one of the most athletic guards in the NBA, and he is a two-way player who loves slashing to the rim. In fact, Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra stated that Anthony Edwards reminds him of Dwyane Wade.
“It’s hard to look at Anthony Edwards and not see Dwyane Wade… The way he moves, competes, and electrifies the crowd. Yes, that reminds me of number 3.”
Dwyane Wade was one of the most popular superstars in the league in his prime, and many found the way he approached basketball very entertaining. Though Anthony Edwards clearly has a long way to go before accomplishing as much as Dwyane Wade, his talent suggests he can get there in the future.
