Victor Wembanyama is one of the most unique athletes we have seen step onto an NBA court. A picture of him being guarded by the 6’1″ Dennis Schroder has gone viral, with the visual of the 7’4″ Wembanyama towering over Dennis causing fans to marvel.

Some people joked about how Schroder was guarding just the lower half of Wemby’s body.

Fans joked about Wembanyama’s monstrous size.

One fan shared a video of Wembanyama ducking under a metal detector to highlight how tall he actually is.

Some fans joked about why Nets head coach Kevin Ollie would even want Schroder to guard Wembanyama.

Fans said Wemby was cheating by being as tall as he is.

Fans were also quick to remind everyone of Schroder’s quality as a player, as Dennis led Germany to the FIBA World Cup title last season.

One fan did raise concerns about Wemby’s frame, imploring the center to start bulking up.

Wembanyama is tied for being the tallest player in the NBA, with Boban Marjanovic also standing at 7’4″. Boban has a minute role on the Houston Rockets, with the center never averaging more than 11.7 minutes per game due to his size.

Wembanyama is averaging 20.7 points, 10.4 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.3 steals, and 3.5 blocks this season while being on a minutes restriction. The Spurs have a careful line to balance to ensure Wemby doesn’t suffer a major injury as he grows out into his frame.

He’ll likely bulk up a little as the seasons pass, as most big men who enter the NBA as extremely skinny do. But Wemby will never target being the heaviest player in the NBA, another category Boban ranks highly in.

Victor Wembanyama Is Already Breaking The NBA

Victor Wembanyama has lived up to the incredible hype he came into the NBA with, making a case for being arguably the most impactful defensive rookie in modern NBA history. His offensive skill set is incredible given he doesn’t rely just on size and has a smooth jumper, but his defensive versatility jumps out when you watch him and look at his stats.

Wembanyama was being tipped as this year’s DPOY by Kyrie Irving after a recent matchup.

“He’s showing signs that he’s exceeded all the Defensive Player of the Year stats previous to guys that have won it. … I don’t know who they’re going to pick, but I mean, he has all the tools to be named Defensive Player of the Year.”

Wembanyama is on track to become the sixth rookie in NBA history to make an All-Defense team. He’s joining an illustrious company with this achievement, with the other members of the club being Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (1970), Hakeem Olajuwon (1985), Manute Bol (1986), David Robinson (1990) and Tim Duncan (1998).

With NBA All-Stars like Damian Lillard pegging Wembanyama to become the best player in the NBA shortly, it’s clear that this alien will only become harder to stop as the years go on.
