The Los Angeles Lakers simply cannot catch a break this season. The team has been slumping for what feels like the entire season, and they continue to lose more games than they win thanks to a lack of consistent scoring outside of LeBron James and Anthony Davis’ consistent injury concerns. This has made the Lakers a bit of a laughing stock among fans and media, and they are regularly at the wrong end of jokes.

Another instance of this occurred after the Lakers lost convincingly to the Phoenix Suns on Sunday night, a game that was nationally televised. The Suns have been the outright best regular-season team in the NBA this year and they showed no mercy to the Lakers, stomping them and scoring 140 points in the game in the process. It was so bad, even James Worthy called the Lakers out.

Richard Jefferson was the announcer during the game and a fan noticed something of a trend that has seen the Lakers lose whenever RJ has been on the call during the game. As a media personality, Jefferson has become immensely popular for his wit and his ability to be funny off the cuff, and he didn’t disappoint when he responded to the fan on Twitter, making fun of the Lakers while doing so.

“I’ve called 4 games how do you explain the other 70 games?”

Obviously, this is somewhat of an exaggeration since the Lakers haven’t played that many games yet this season but the way they’ve been losing, one might have to check again to see that they actually haven’t lost that many. Jefferson loves a witty comeback, and this one came at the expense of his former teammate LeBron James and his Lakers team.

The Lakers fell to 9 games under .500 with this latest loss and are now just 2.5 games ahead of the 11th seed. They are 3-7 in their last 10 games and it has taken 50-point efforts from LeBron James to earn them their last 2 wins. Things are looking dire right now, and as things stand these might not be the last digs Lakers fans have to suffer through this season.
