Former Chicago Bulls superstar Scottie Pippen is one of the most accomplished players the basketball world has ever seen. As a 7x All-Star, 10x All-Defensive player, and 6x champion, there isn’t much that he hasn’t seen or done at the NBA level.

So when he was asked to give his thoughts on the modern-day Bulls team, it’s no surprise that much of the NBA community tuned in to listen.

Unfortunately for Chicago, Pippen wasn’t exactly optimistic about their chances to win.

(via NBC Sports):

“Throughout the regular season they definitely looked a lot better. I think (DeMar) DeRozan definitely brought them some firepower that they needed from an offensive standpoint. I think (in the) postseason they sort of fell back into the slot that they’ve been in for the last 10 or 15 years. They’re just not a team that’s built for the postseason,” Pippen said. “They had some injuries this year, but the other teams out there are continuing to improve… Milwaukee is still gonna be strong, Miami (Heat). So even (if) the improvements that they (the Bulls) are making is drastic improvement, other teams are making moves too. They’re (other teams) really not giving them (the Bulls) a chance to close the gap.”

Those are fighting words from Pippen to his former ball club. After achieving so much success during his tenure there, he couldn’t even be bothered to sugar-coat the truth at least a little bit.

Nevertheless, it might be the reality check the franchise needs. Despite having some young talent, the Bulls don’t really have a roster that anyone would consider good enough to win a championship.

Perhaps the front office should heed Pippen’s advice and make a move that will really push them over the top. Until then, they will only continue to be counted out.
