Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has surprisingly dissed Stephen Curry after the Oklahoma City Thunder beat the Golden State Warriors 130-123 in overtime on Saturday night. The day after the game, Gilgeous-Alexander made a post on Instagram that featured highlights only of him scoring on and blocking Curry.
“I was feeling like e-40 in the Bay, so I had to go dumb.”
Considering Gilgeous-Alexander finished the night with 40 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks, there were plenty of other clips he could have put on there. Instead, the 25-year-old only chose the ones where he could be seen outplaying Curry.
Shai isn’t exactly the type to shy away from dissing an opponent, but going at the two-time MVP sure is a bold move. We have seen in the past that Curry relishes embarrassing those who take shots at him and the Canadian might regret this.
As for Curry’s play in this game, he had 25 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists on his return from injury. It was understandably a bit of a quiet night considering the circumstances, and expect the 35-year-old to be back to his best when they take on the Houston Rockets on Monday.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander vs. Stephen Curry Head To Head
While Shai got the win here, he hasn’t always had a lot of success against Curry, as this was just the third time he’d won in 10 regular season meetings between them. When you include the playoffs as well, the Warriors superstar has a big lead over his young opponent.
Stephen Curry vs. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander: 11-5
Curry’s stats: 28.0 points, 6.3 rebounds, 5.3 assists, 0.8 steals, 0.4 blocks per game
Gilgeous-Alexander’s stats: 20.1 points, 3.4 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 1.0 steals, 0.8 blocks per game
Now, obviously, these numbers would be in favor of Curry, as Shai only really emerged as a superstar last season. It’ll be interesting to see which way their matchups go in the coming years.
The only way we’ll see these two face off again this season would be in the playoffs, as the season series between the two teams is over. The Thunder won it 2-1, but Curry wasn’t available for the second game. It would be fascinating to see a playoff series between these teams and I hope we get it.
The Thunder Can’t Stop Winning
It wasn’t too long ago, that the Thunder were being criticized for tanking and whatnot, but it’s safe to say no one is going to be accusing them of that now. After beating the Warriors, they crushed the Portland Trail Blazers 134-91 on Monday night.
It was a fifth straight win for OKC, who are now second in the Western Conference with a 10-4 record. While the likes of Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams have really impressed this season, the star of the show has been Gilgeous-Alexander.
He is averaging 29.6 points, 6.2 rebounds, 5.8 assists, 2.5 steals, and 0.8 blocks per game while shooting 53.5% from the field and 36.0% from beyond the arc. Shai is showing that his making the All-NBA First Team last season was no fluke and has established himself as one of the best players in the league. As long as he stays healthy, the Thunder will go places.
