Shannon Sharpe Disagrees That Stephen Curry Will Surpass Magic Johnson As The Greatest Point Guard Ever If He Wins Championship This Year

3 Min Read

As an 8x All-Star, 2x MVP, and 4x Champion, Stephen Curry has already written his name in the history books. If he retired today, he’d be one of the top five best point guards to ever play the game.

But Steph isn’t done quite yet and, in fact, he has a chance to add to his resume this postseason.

With another Championship, could he finally surpass Magic and take the mantle as the greatest point guard ever?

According to Shannon Sharpe, the answer is no. After one fan made the claim, Sharpe made his stance very clear that such a scenario is never going to happen.

As the 2nd seeded team in the West, the Warriors have a real chance to win this year, and it would only add to Steph’s amazing resume.

But putting him above Magic would be quite a leap. Not only did his play help save a dying NBA, but he’s also a better defender and playmaker. He shined in an era w=that was defined by toughness, loyalty, and tradition. He’s also more accomplished than Curry. In our comparison of the two players, we gave Magic the edge simply because of how far ahead he is in other categories.

Magic Johnson beats this decade’s premier point guard, Stephen Curry, 7-0, dominating him in our career comparison. Magic was a true force of nature, winning 5 titles, 3 Finals MVP Awards, and 3 regular season MVPs throughout his career. Magic’s complete beat down over Steph in every major category speaks to how talented the Lakers point guard was. Even though the Purple and Gold legend has been in the news lately for his front office gaffs in LA, NBA fans can’t forget his true greatness.

So while a Championship will help pull Curry closer to the top, he’s going to need more than one more title before he can hope to surpass Magic Johnson as basketball’s All-Time greatest point guard.

At 34-years-old, he probably doesn’t have too much time left. But it will be amazing to see what more he can do before his career finally draws to a close.
