Shaquille O’Neal Explains Why Kawhi Leonard And Paul George Will Not Win The Title With The Clippers

Shaquille O'Neal explained why he doesn't believe the Clippers led by Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, are title contenders this season.

When Kawhi Leonard and Paul George joined the Los Angeles Clippers in 2019, it shook up the NBA world.

They looked set, at some point, to win that elusive title for the Clippers but it hasn’t happened so far and Shaquille O’Neal isn’t sure it’ll happen this season either.

“I do see it, but it’s a big if. Paul George and Kawhi played good,” O’Neal said. “But again, when you’re the one-two punch..you have to play extraordinary, you have to play magnificent, and you have to play legendary. The problem I see with the Clippers is that they were in the game most of the game then they let it get away and then they try to have a heroic comeback. They got to find points in a game when they get to 10, 12, and 15-point leads and sustain that lead and keep the lead. All year they have been losing leads, fighting back, trying to get the heroic wins, it’s not going to work if you want to win a championship.”

The Clippers have had issues when it comes to hanging on to leads and we have seen that recently as well. In that wild double-overtime game against the Sacramento Kings, they were up 145-131 with 4 minutes remaining in regulation, but their offense then went cold as Leonard and George weren’t able to seal the deal. The Clippers need their one-two punch to deliver the goods in the big moments and far too often, they have come up short.

They took an early lead on Tuesday night against the Minnesota Timberwolves as well, but couldn’t hold and all their efforts to make a comeback fell short. Ultimately, if the Clippers want to win a title, they’ll have to sort out this issue but this isn’t something you solve in a few weeks, which raises concerns regarding their title prospects for this season. This latest defeat also made it 3 losses in a row since they signed Russell Westbrook but the former MVP isn’t concerned by it.

Russell Westbrook Isn’t Worried About The Clippers Being 0-3 Since His Arrival

All eyes were going to be on the Clippers after they signed Westbrook and it isn’t looking great at the moment after falling to 0-3. Westbrook though isn’t “one bit worried” about this poor start. He said they have a very talented group and that they are definitely going to get it together.

It is true that the Clippers are loaded, but they don’t have too much time left to get it together. Another loss in their next game against the Golden State Warriors could see them drop to the 7th seed and they would want to stay as far away as possible from the play-in tournament.
