The Boston Celtics secured a big win in Game 1 of the 2022 NBA Finals after rallying in the 4th quarter to sweep the Golden State Warriors off the court and make a statement to those that doubted they could put up a good performance against the Dubs.
Even though they won the match as visitors, Jayson Tatum’s performance earned a lot of criticism for the player, who only scored 12 points, shot less than 20% from the field and didn’t look like his usual version. Still, he recorded a career-high 13 assists that helped his teammates win the game.
Given that he’s the No. 1 option for the Celtics, a 12-point performance is terrible for him, and while many people criticized him, others supported Tatum, lauding his capacity to adapt his game to impact the matches in different ways.
Well, that didn’t stop Skip Bayless from trashing him. The controversial analyst recently went off on Tatum for his performance in Game 1, saying that somebody who is about to become a superstar couldn’t afford to have those types of games.

“Your man was three-of-seventeen, that’s 17.6%, one of five from three, are you kidding me?… I’ve got to tell the truth. For a guy that is soon to be a superstar, he’s on the verge, he has a seat with his name on it, I got to give him a D as in dog because that was some you know what. That was pathetic,” Bayless said on a recent episode of The Undisputed.
That’s true and everybody knows Tatum must do better if the C’s aspire to win it all this season. Then again, when you have a solid supporting cast, sometimes you can take a seat back and let the rest of the team do their thing. JT has mastered that and nobody in the Celtics locker room was upset with that. He’s willing to do whatever it takes to win, and that’s the most important thing a superstar must have.
