The Los Angeles Lakers are in the spotlight already in pre-season, and the team didn’t get off to a great start, getting blown out by the Sacramento Kings. The pre-season doesn’t particularly matter too much, it’s mostly for players to get themselves ready for the NBA season, but the Lakers need some positivity. And while the game overall might have been a disappointment, there was one particular highlight for the Lakers.

Anthony Davis’ health and performance is arguably the deciding factor for if the Lakers have success this season. He has struggled to be healthy the last couple of seasons, and the Lakers have struggled. LeBron James will be LeBron James, Russell Westbrook is a question mark, but if AD can get back to his best, he can carry the team to success.

And in the 15 minutes he played last night, Davis looked like he might be reaching that level once again. He had 11 points and 11 rebounds, was productive, and even made a couple of three-pointers. And his performance managed to impress a few people.

Skip Bayless Says Anthony Davis Looks Like The 2020 Version Of Himself

Anthony Davis played arguably the best basketball of his career in the Bubble when the Lakers won the championship. He averaged 27 points and nearly 10 rebounds per game and was unstoppable on both ends of the floor. And based on the small pre-season sample size, NBA analyst Skip Bayless says AD is moving like he was in 2020.

“Is this the same Anthony Davis that I remember from last year? Is this 2020 Anthony Davis who has suddenly reared his head? The Anthony Davis I saw last night was everything he talked about. … He was a flat-out monster last night. … He was moving like 2020 AD and commanding the paint.”

Anthony Davis getting back to his best form can only be great news for the Lakers, although they need their Big 3 to come together as well. The other positive was being able to give them more minutes together, even if it was a short burst.

If all three can stay healthy, the Lakers might finally have the chance to make up for their disappointing performances last season. LeBron James is certainly looking forward to it, and it may be the only hope for Lakers fans as they try to stay optimistic ahead of an important season for the franchise.
