Skip Bayless Predicts Klay Thompson Will Be Better Than Jayson Tatum And Jaylen Brown In The NBA Finals: “I Am Not Writing Off Klay Thompson To Be The MVP Of This Series.”

3 Min Read

The Golden State Warriors and the Boston Celtics will face off against one another in what promises to be an epic duel between the two teams. Both have deep rosters with players that know their roles and stars to carry them when the big moments arrive. Both teams also play both sides of the ball, and while Steph Curry and Klay Thompson have been there and done that time and again, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown are hungry for their first taste of ultimate success.

A large topic of conversation before the series begins has been which player will win Finals MVP. Always an interesting discussion to be had, the fact that Steph Curry doesn’t have one to his name yet is also a large part of why it’s happening. And while Curry is the favorite for the award going into the series, a few others are contending for it too.

If the Celtics win, both Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown could have a case, but Skip Bayless has thrown another name into the ring, Klay Thompson. Klay is coming off an injury that has seen him put in some erratic performances, but Bayless seems to think he can outdo both the Celtics stars. Tatum and Brown:

Skip Bayless: “I believe in the Finals, Klay will be better than JT (Jayson Tatum).”

Shannon Sharpe: “You mean JB (Jaylen Brown).”

Skip Bayless: “Well, either one. Name one.”

Shannon Sharpe: “Hold on, you think Klay Thompson is gonna be better than Jayson Tatum?”

Skip Bayless: “Yeah well, Jayson Tatum, he stinks it up when you least expect it. Does he not throw some stinkers in here? You sure about this? I mean, we’re gonna talk about who’s gonna be the MVP in just a couple of topics here, and I am not writing off Klay Thompson to be the MVP of this series. I’m not writing him off, that’s how much I still believe in him.”

Thompson has averaged under 20 points during these playoffs and shot just under 40% from three-point range, but he has it in him to go nuclear and win games single-handedly, something he has showcased in these playoffs as well. Writing Klay off is never a good idea, but Tatum and Brown have taken on players like Giannis Antetokounmpo and Jimmy Butler and still put up numbers, so it’s a gutsy call for Skip Bayless to make.
