Shannon Sharpe has become one of the faces of sports media in the last few years, thanks to his role on Undisputed alongside Skip Bayless. But having recently left FS1, Sharpe is now a free agent in the world of sports media.

Stephen A. Smith said right after Shannon Sharpe announced his departure that he would love to work with him. And he has now doubled down on that, going as far as to reveal that the network is already negotiating with Sharpe.

“Make no mistake about it. I’m not apologizing to a damn show. I want Shannon Sharpe on First Take,” Smith said. “And I aim to get him. We are definitely talking to Shannon Sharpe. The conversations are official.

“The reports have not been misnomers or misreports. We are talking to him and I’m very confident and very hopeful that we will be announcing sooner or later that he will be on First Take.”

Stephen A. Smith went on to say that he is not the boss at the network and that he is not involved at the negotiating level. But he did admit that he is pushing for the network to bring Shannon in. After all these years on television with Stephen A. Smith’s old partner, Skip Bayless, it would seem that Shannon Sharpe might go over to a direct rival, which would be intense, to say the least.

Undisputed Is Reportedly Struggling To Find A Replacement For Shannon Sharpe

Talent in media is just as hard to find and replace as it is in sports. Shannon Sharpe has made himself a household name, and Skip Bayless and Undisputed are now faced with the unenviable task of replacing him. Having partnered with Skip for years arguing about the likes of LeBron James and Luka Doncic, it seems the show is struggling to find someone else of his caliber

“According to Front Office Sports, the daily talk show went on hiatus because Bayless and Fox Sports have been unable to find a replacement for the NFL Hall of Famer after his exit in June.”

If Sharpe does head on over to ESPN, it will be a major coup for the network as he is one of the hottest properties in basketball and general sports media. The network recently laid off several analysts from their roster, but acquiring Sharpe could do more than enough to start a new era at ESPN and on First Take.
