Stephen Curry Explains His Legendary Game-Winning Shot Against OKC In 2016

2 Min Read

In a courtside appearance during the Warriors’ 109-95 win over the Magic on Saturday, Steph Curry walked us through his miraculous game-winning shot against the Thunder in 2016. That shot was one of the most iconic of his career and, as Steph pointed out, marked the highlight of a week in which he was putting on an unbelievable display.

“That was probably one of the best weeks… We had a timeout left and coach decided not to use it. Sometimes closer isn’t better so just shoot it from wherever you get open, and thankfully it went in.”

During that 5 game stretch, Curry averaged 41.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, 6.6 assists per game on .583/.551/.880 shooting splits. In the month of February of that season (10 games), he put up 37/6/7 on 55/54/88 splits — on 12.5 threes per game.

He went on to win his second-straight MVP that year and became the first-ever unanimous winner of the award as he led the Warriors to the best record in league history (73-9) and a trip to the Western Conference Finals.

Of course, we all know what happened from there. Kevin Durant came to town, the Dubs started a stretch of unbelievable dominance. Today, as Curry nurses a hand injury, his team has been left to scrape by as a shell of their former selves.

Without Steph, they have struggled to keep their heads above the water and the NBA as a whole has seen a dip in ratings. Clearly, the league misses Curry — and that shot back in 2016 shows us why.
