Stephen Curry: ‘I Don’t Play Defense Half The Time’

2 Min Read

Stephen Curry has been criticized for his defense -or lack of it- for plenty of fans. The Golden State Warriors superstar is not the most elite defender of all, and he has addressed that, admitting he doesn’t put much effort into trying to stop his rivals.

Talking with Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Chris Paul during an Instagram live on Monday, Curry said he doesn’t care that much about defense. CP3 was remembering that famous Curry’s crossover that put him on his back before the pair agreed that everybody who plays defense would end up the same way.

Curry then revealed he doesn’t play defense ‘half the time’.

Contrary to CP3, Curry is anything but a good defender, which has always been his weak spot on the floor. He’s great in the offense, he’s arguably the greatest shooter of all time, but on the other end of the floor, it’s the complete opposite.

Still, that hasn’t been a problem for him and the Warriors, who count with Draymond Green and Klay Thompson, two of the best defenders in the league. Curry’s focus has always been on the offense, and the Dubs can’t be happier about it. They have won three titles led by the 2x NBA MVP, so that’s not a big inconvenience for them.

This season Curry played only five games before the NBA suspended it due to the coronavirus outbreak. The Warriors weren’t having a good campaign, they featured plenty of young players, posting the worst record (15-50) in the league. Curry and the rest of the Dubs nation expect next season to be considerably better than this one.

CP3, on the other hand, was leading a young OKC team to rank 5th in a stacked Western Conference with a 40-24 record. We can’t wait to see these two back in action, going against each other, curiously leading two young squads.
