• Stephen Curry thinks Luka Doncic is the next big star in the NBA

• He claimed he can feel how special Luka’s game is while playing against him

• Curry did express slight concern about Doncic breaking through

Stephen Curry is not going anywhere, as the four-time champion is raring to compete in the 2023-24 season. Curry will turn 35 soon, so on his recent appearance on Gilbert Arenas’ podcast, Steph was asked which players are up next after him. The Warriors’ guard said Luka Doncic.

(Starts at 24:00)

“Luka’s like the guy, obviously, that’s right on the precipice of all those accolades. Just what he’s about as a player. [It’s about] that threshold of just, ‘how do you crack through?’ I hope it’s not now, but when you play against him, you can feel it.”

Doncic has been in the NBA for five years and has already stacked some incredible accomplishments. He already has four All-NBA First Team and four All-Star selections to his name, while just being 24 years old.

Can Luka Doncic Reach His Ceiling?

It’s been apparent in the last few seasons that Luka Doncic, at the peak of his powers, may be a player that rivals the greatest players of all time. However, a poor team around him and his inability to stay in shape meant that the 2022-23 season would be a disaster for Doncic’s reputation as a ‘winning player’.

Despite averaging the best numbers of his career with 32.4 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 8.0 assists, the Mavs missed the playoffs for the first time since Luka’s rookie year. While Doncic’s defense was lacking, he was having some of the greatest individual performances in league history to drag his team to the few wins that they got.

With Doncic in the best shape of his career, a roster that’s been bolstered by re-signing Kyrie Irving and adding the likes of Grant Williams and first-round rookies, the Mavs are headed in the right direction. It just hinges on Luka to take them to the promised land.
