Kyrie Irving is going to be wearing a Nets jersey for the foreseeable future. At least, that’s what it looks like right now.

In a chat with the media, head coach Steve Nash expressed confidence that the star point guard will remain with the team past this season.

Steve Nash on Kyrie Irving’s future with the Nets: “I think we all feel confident that we’ll have Kyrie back, but that’s a front office discussion.”

Irving, 30, could become an unrestricted free agent this summer if he opts out of the final year of his deal. Despite all the drama that has played out in Brooklyn lately, he seems more committed than ever to the franchise, even making a verbal commitment to the team earlier this week.

While we have seen Kyrie make (and break) these promises before, there is a real sense that he has found a permanent home in Brooklyn.

“To be honest, I signed up for this for the long run,” Irving said. “I love this year. I’m grateful. It has not been the prototypical year. But when I look at my teammates and I look at what we have as an organization. I’m looking for the long run and what we can do, legacy talk. For me, it has always been about being comfortable and loving where I’m at. I love it here. Once that summertime hits, I know we’ll have some conversations but there’s no way I could leave my man 7 anywhere.”

Irving and Kevin Durant came to Brooklyn together in the summer of 2019. So far, they have little to show for their time together, but that can change in an instant.

With a close bond and unbelievable talent, the pair have plenty of time and opportunity to bring some success to the franchise.

Finally, after two full seasons, there is nothing holding them back anymore.
