Memphis Grizzlies fans received disappointing news as their center, Steven Adams, has been ruled out for the entire 2023-24 NBA season. The team announced that Adams would require surgery on his right posterior cruciate ligament after non-operative rehabilitation failed to resolve the ongoing instability in his knee.

This injury has kept Adams sidelined since January, far beyond the initial prognosis of missing only three to five weeks when he suffered the injury while diving for a loose ball against the Phoenix Suns.

The Grizzlies are optimistic about Adams’ recovery for the 2024-25 season, but losing such a key player is undoubtedly a blow to the team’s prospects for the current season. Adams, who is under contract through 2024-25 thanks to a two-year, $25.2 million extension, has been a valuable contributor since joining the Grizzlies in the 2021 offseason. He’s known for his physical presence in the paint and has averaged 7.5 points and an impressive 10.6 rebounds per game.

This news leaves a void in the Grizzlies’ lineup and will require other players to step up in Adams’ absence as the team looks to maintain its competitive edge in a challenging Western Conference.

The Grizzlies Are Doomed

The Memphis Grizzlies are facing a challenging season with the absence of key players like Steven Adams and Ja Morant. The news of Adams being ruled out for the entire 2023-24 season due to knee surgery is a significant blow for the team. Adams was a crucial presence in the paint, known for his tenacity on the boards and physicality. Many believed that his presence in the series against the Lakers would have made a substantial difference, especially in defending against stars like Anthony Davis.

Adding to their woes, Ja Morant, the face of the franchise, is also expected to miss the first 25 games of the season due to suspension. Morant’s dynamic play and leadership are instrumental to the Grizzlies’ success, and his absence further compounds the challenges they will face.

With these two key players sidelined, the Grizzlies’ hopes indeed appear bleak. The Western Conference is highly competitive, and losing key contributors like Adams and Morant will make it tough for the team to maintain its competitive edge. However, adversity can also provide opportunities for other players to step up and prove their worth, so it will be interesting to see how the Grizzlies navigate this challenging season.

Jaren Jackson Jr. Will Need To Have A Massive Season

Jaren Jackson Jr. faces a crucial season ahead, especially in light of the Memphis Grizzlies’ recent setbacks with key players like Steven Adams and Ja Morant. Jackson has always been touted as a promising talent due to his ability to stretch the floor and play strong defense. However, one glaring area that needs improvement is his rebounding.

Jackson’s prowess on the glass has been a subject of critique, both in the NBA and on the international stage. During the FIBA World Cup, he struggled against dominant bigs, ultimately contributing to Team USA’s semifinal exit. This underlines the need for Jackson to improve his rebounding skills, as controlling the paint and securing second-chance opportunities are vital aspects of a big man’s game.

In addition to improving his rebounding, Jackson will also be expected to increase his scoring output. With Morant’s absence, the Grizzlies will need other players to step up in terms of scoring. Jackson has the potential to be a significant offensive force, capable of both knocking down three-pointers and driving to the basket. If he can elevate his scoring consistency, it will be a massive asset for the team.

The upcoming season presents an opportunity for Jackson to address these areas of improvement and make a substantial impact on the Grizzlies. If he can do so, he’ll not only help fill the void left by injured teammates but also solidify his place as a rising star in the NBA.
