After 11 years with the Portland Trail Blazers, Damian Lillard finally made the move everyone has been waiting for. Hours ago, he informed the Trail Blazers of his intention to ask for a trade and now the race is on to see who can pry him from his long-time home.

As of the time of writing, four teams are known to be involved in the Lillard trade talks: the Heat, Clippers, 76ers, and San Antonio Spurs. But according to ESPN’s insiders, a certain team from New York City could also make a run for him:

“The Nets agreed yesterday to trade Joe Harris to Detroit but the deal is not official yet. You can rope him into a three-team deal here because it’s hard to get the money to work,” said Bobby Marks. “For this sake, we’re gonna say it’s a three-team deal and it’s more a pick package with a young player like Nic Claxton.”

With a package of picks, Spencer Dinwiddie, Joe Harris, and Nic Claxton, the Nets cannot be ruled out as a landing spot for Dame. If they feel like going all-in and pairing Lillard with Mikal Bridges, it could vault them into contention in the Eastern Conference.

Either way, the Lillard sweepstakes are in full swing and the Blazers will have to decide if they want to send Dame where he wants to go the most or if they would rather trade him for the best return possible. If it’s the latter, there may be no better situation for them than a deal with the Nets.

What Comes Next For Damian Lillard?

Now that Dame’s trade request is complete, all he has to do is sit back and watch the bidding war begin. While we know that the Heat are at the top of his list, he doesn’t have a no-trade clause that allows him to choose his next destination.

His fate is in Portland’s hands now, but wherever he goes will become an instant title contender and it’ll be the first time in his career that he’ll be in such a position.
